The first time Houston County and Veterans met – back on Aug. 10 – it was a 6-5 win for the Lady Warhawks; in walk-off fashion, no less.

The Lady Bears might have remembered. At least the scoreboard said they did, as they out-hit Veterans 14-5 in a 15-0 win; in four innings, and in a payback sort of way, in walk-off fashion, no less.
Houston County had what it needed in two innings. Four were scored in the first and six plated in the second. Five in the fourth were just icing on the cake as they say, but did serve to put an end to the contest.
The first time they met, Taylor Peebles got the call Houston County. She worked six innings before giving way to Rylee Lamb, who surrendered the game-tying and go-ahead hits. Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, shame on me. Translated that means Lamb was more than made up for the task this time. She scattered five hits. One was in the first. It was erased by a double play. One was in the second. It was wiped out by two flyouts and a strikeout – her first and only K of the game.

Two came with two outs in the third – one a single, one a double – but were negated by another flyout. The final one came in the fourth with an out. It was take care of by two more flyouts – the defense playing error-less ball and doing its part in the win.
On offense, Grace Hardee led the way. In fact, it was her grand slam – in the bottom of the fourth. She went 3-4 with six RBIs and three runs scored.
Also, Kendall Huelsman went 2-3 – one of those a double (there were four twin-baggers in all) – and drove in three. Lamb also helped her cause, going 1-1 with two walks and two driven in.
Skyler Welford was the hit leader for the Lady Warhawks. She went 2-2.
With the win, Houston County improved to 12-7, while Veterans dropped to 9-7.
