WR, VHS sweeps; HoCo falls in 3

Warner Robins earned a pair of wins Tuesday at Stratford. The Demonettes beat the host 25-19, 25-23 and then Perry 25-18, 25-13.

“Anna Slaughter definitely made a statement last night,” said Head Coach Cassie Bennett. “She was rock solid from the service line and the net.” Slaughter finished with two aces and a block in the first game against the Lady Eagles. She had a ace and four kills against the Lady Panthers in Game 1 and an ace and three kills in Game 2.

Parker Hogan and Hannah Spalding are both setters but stood out on defense as well, Bennett said. Indira Canez and Jessica Henry split time as a Libero but they “both made a difference in the back row, making sure the ball did not hit the floor.”

Also, Kayla Moore had four kills against Stratford in Game 1 and two more in the second matchup. She also had a kill against Perry in Game 1.

Parker Hogan had two aces and a kill against the Lady Eagles to start out with and then added four aces versus the Lady Panthers.

Elsewhere, Veterans also swept at First Presbyterian Day in Macon. It beat Luella in two: 25-16, 25-15, then the host in three. It won the first 25-21, fell in the second 25-23 but rolled in the third, 25-12.

“It was definitely a team win,” said Head Coach Marlene Rogers.

Senior Lorelei Diamond, Rogers said, led consistently in the matches. Against Luella, she finished with five kills, five digs and a block. Senior Ashley Dostie pulled in 10 digs and led in aces with four. Alasha Heard led in kills with 10 whereas Shaylen Brown, Rogers said, “was a wall” with five blocks.

Against the Lady Vikings, Heard led with 15 kills, three aces and five blocks.

She was consistently fed the ball by setter Izzy Coddington, Rogers said, the latter finishing with 32 assists.

Also, Dostie had 11 digs and chipped in five aces.

Houston County on the other hand didn’t fare as well as the other two. The Lady Bears fell on the road at Locust Grove, 2-1.

“We jumped on them hard in the first game,” said Head Coach Maria Huelsman. “And in the second we lost our setter Raven Dickerson to a possible concussion. The girls fought hard in the second and just missed pulling it out. In the third game we made our adjustments for Raven going out. We struggled a bit  but fell in sync … lost the third game, 29-27. Shouldn’t have but we did.”

Veterans and Warner Robins each have a match Thursday (Whitewater and Lee County at Veterans and Fayette County at Warner Robins), but all three will get a chance to see each other Saturday as part of the Lady Bears’ play date.
