Seventh key in VHS win over Perry; Hardee’s 7 RBIs pace HoCo

A five-run seventh enabled Veterans to pull past Perry for a 10-5 win Wednesday at Perry. The Lady Warhawks scored three in the first. The Lady Panthers answered with two in the third.

Veterans went up 5-2 with two in the fourth, but Perry tied it with three in the fifth. A scoreless sixth for both set the stage for the win. It began with back-to-back-to-back errors unfortunately – three of four committed by the host. With a couple of two-out singles added in, the damage was done.

Anna Dumas had two of those hits. She went 2-4 – one of those a double – and drove in three. Jenna Thomas was also 2-5 with an RBI and run scored and Kaylee Brown 2-3 with an RBI and three scored. Trinity Thiel was only 1-4, but she collected three RBIs and scored once.

Annie Chance led the Lady Panthers’ charge. She was 2-2 with two walks. One of her hits was a homerun. She drove in two in all, while scoring once. Avery Williams also had a homerun while going 2-3 with an RBI and run driven in.

Charisma Walker took the loss for Perry. She gave up Veterans’ 10 hits, walked four and struck out one.

Emily Myers went four for the Lady Warhawks. She gave up five hits and runs while walking two. Jenna West worked the final trey. She gave up three hits, walked one and struck out one.

Veterans improved to 5-2 with the win while Perry fell to 2-5.

Elsewhere, Grace Hardee drove in seven runs – part of an 18-hit attack by Houston County – while leading the Lady Bears to an 18-10 win over Mary Persons.

Hardee – who knows how much more she might have added had it not ended in five innings – was 3-2 with a walk. Two of her hits were homeruns.

Also, Madi Campbell drove in four while going 4-4 – she also scored four times. Taylor Peebles was 3-3 with two RBIs and three scored and Hannah Otto was 1-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Mary Persons opened the scoring with three in the first. The Lady Bears plated two, held the Lady Bulldogs off the scoreboard in the second and then added four. Mary Persons made it 6-5 with two in the top of the third but Houston County scored six. It then answered the Lady Bulldogs four in the fourth with six in the bottom half. Mary Person’s final run came in the top of the fifth.

Peebles worked three and a third for the Lady Bears and Olivia Brown one and two-thirds. The first gave up nine hits, nine runs, walked one and struck out two. The second gave up three hits, one run, walked one and fanned one.

Houston County improved to 5-2 with the win while Mary Persons fell to 1-5.

Northside on the other hand, found little going for it at Lee County. It fell to the Lady Trojans 10-0 in five. On the plus side, Kylee Ussery only gave up five hits in the contest. On the negative, the Lady Eagles managed only one. That came via Stephanie Ruffin (1-2).

The loss left Northside at 6-6 while Lee County improved to 3-6.
