Bill Curry, legendary football coach and player, was in town Tuesday to speak to the Warner Robins Rotary Club. The event was held at the Wellston Center in Warner Robins. After the gathering, Mike Davis was able to sit down with Curry for a Sportsmic interview (below).
Curry played college football for Bobby Dodd at Georgia Tech in the mid 1960’s where he was the team Captain for the 1964 season. Much of his pro career was spent with the Baltimore Colts, where he was a Pro Bowl Center for the 1971 and 1972 seasons and a member of the Super Bowl Championship team in 1970. Bill was selected to the All-Time Baltimore Colts
Team in 2003. In 1980, after a few years working with the National Football League Players Association and coaching in the NFL, Coach Curry became the head football coach at Georgia Tech. He would lead the Jackets through the 1986 season, before heading to Alabama for a three year run as the head man for The Tide.
The Kentucky Wildcats hired Curry as their head coach where he worked for seven seasons before serving a ten year tenure as an analyst for ESPN. Curry was the first head coach and was instrumental in establishing the football program for Georgia State University which began in 2008.
