Perry downs Spalding, Mary Persons; WR beats West Laurens

Perry and Warner Robins both swept on the volleyball court Tuesday.

For the Lady Panthers, that meant taking two Area matches, one from Spalding and one from Mary Persons – both two sets to none.

Perry beat Spalding 25-23 in the first matchup and 25-17 in the second.

However, “We did not play well at all against Spalding,” said Head Coach Terri Hunt. “(I) think we had a bad lag from the holiday weekend.

“We had to overcome 11 service errors and numerous ball handling errors.”

Things were considerably different against the Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Panthers won the first set 25-9 and dominated in the second, 25-2.

“We finally woke up and got our offense going,” Hunt said. “MP had a difficult time returning our serves in both matches. Hannah Hunt started us off in the second match (by) serving 15 straight times with six aces.”

Michaela Reams also helped lead the way. She had four aces, two kills and a block. Also, Leah Spears had four blocks and four kills and Davina Brown had two blocks and two kills.
“We are still struggling a bit with consistency,” Hunt said. “But I am very proud of our effort, hustle and teamwork to this point. Chemistry is good and I am counting on that to help us finish our season strong.”

As far as the Demonettes, they beat West Laurens 25-10 and 25-7.

“Things went really well last night for us,” said Head Coach Cassie Bennett. “Freshmen, JV and Varsity (all) won last night. I was so proud of all the girls. They were focused and kept up their energy.

“I am definitely pleased with how well they all played. However, that does not mean that we are going to stop working hard to get even better.”

Hannah Spalding was just one of many leaders. She finished with six aces and a kill. Anna Slaughter had five aces and two kills and Kayla Moore had five kills.
