1) Dylan Fromm’s got game. OK, so maybe it wasn’t a major secret that the now-Warner Robins High School student-athlete, who is listed at 6-0, 190 pounds on MaxPreps, had talent. It’s just that he wasn’t able to showcase it while in the shadow of brother Jake, who is now a freshman with Georgia.
Showcase it he did Friday, however, in the Demons’ 28-17 win over Northside. Fromm went 23-of-38 passing for 229 yards and four touchdowns in his first career start. (Oh, and we suppose there’s also that other Fromm kid – Tyler – and his 25-yard touchdown catch.)

2) Did the eclipse come early? We were beginning to think so when the penalties began to pile up for Northside – 65 yards in the first half alone (in fact more in penalties than passing and running combined during that early span). Of course the Eagles are no stranger to penalties (as if anybody else is, either). Three straight illegal procedure penalties cost them a win over eventual state champ Valdosta (14-6) last year.
Yeah. “You just had to bring that up again,” sayeth the Northside faithful. Sorry. Just call it a dark, dark day in Northside, Ga.
3) Since he was a freshman (no relation to “fresh man”). That’s how long it’s been since former Bear and current Demon Jaeven West, who scored on a 12-yard pass and had some good returns, felt defeat at the hands of Northside. Now come on. Be honest. How many student-athletes in Houston County can say that!
4) “The sophomores are coming! The sophomores are coming!” Well, Paul Revere might have said it after watching the Houston County Bears – victims of Jones County in the Corky Kell Classic. Two in particular stood out: Wesley Steiner who rushed for 93 yards on 16 carries and Donavon Mabry who carried the ball 10 times for 69 yards. But then there was also quarterback Isaiah Harris who was 7-13 for 67 yards and no interceptions.
Let’s see, that means not only will they continue to get better this year, we’ll see them for two more years. “Hey Pinky. Are you thinking what I’m thinking?” “Gee, I don’t know Brain. What are you thinking?” Brain: “Maybe it’s finally time to take over the world (aka state championship).”
5) It is probably the worst thing you – a Veteran Warhawk (player and/or fan) – could ever imagine. The ball on the one-inch line, you’re drooling because you can stretch your nose across the plain of the endzone line and still not be offsides. Next thing you know – there goes a runner (Nick Carter) from the opposing team headed 99 yards – and an inch – the other way for a score.
Oh the horror!
What’d we learn? Don’t stick your nose where it doesn’t belong. No, wait. That’s not right. Keep your chin up Veterans. You have too much talent! Plus, the odds of something like that happening are about as rare as a team giving up a huge lead in the Super Bowl … Oh, wait …
