NHS wins fourth straight; VHS loses first

Northside’s Lady Eagles eclipsed the .500 mark Saturday with a pair of wins. The last also marked their fourth straight.

First they rallied to get past Hawkinsville 14-10, and then beat Mount de Sales 9-6.

Makalie King earned the win in the first game. She relieved Kylie Ussery in the first with four runs on the board, no outs and a runner on third. Somewhat in Ussery’s defense two errors had already been committed – there were 10 in all by the Lady Eagles. However, she had also walked three.

She did get a chance for redemption against the Lady Cavaliers and made good use of it. She worked all seven innings in that one while giving up eight hits and six runs. She also struck out four while only walking one.

As far as King, she went on to scatter five hits and five runs – one in the second, three in the fourth and one in the seventh. She struck out one but did walk four.

Northside on the other hand, tied the game with six in the second, then went out front with six in the fifth. Its final two came in the sixth.

Deja Cheatham was a force to be reckoned with on offense. She went 3-4. One of her hits was a double and one a homerun, as she drove in three and scored three times.

Kyle Rosell also drove in a pair while going 1-3.

King was the offensive hero against Mount de Sales. She went 2-4 – one of those a double – and drove in four. She also scored once.

Also, Brittany Foust went 1-4, but drove in two with her hit.

Elsewhere, West Laurens gave Veterans its first loss, an 11-2 result. The big hurt came in the sixth when the Lady Raiders plated seven. They, with two in the first and two in the third, were already up 4-2. The Lady Warhawks lone runs came in the first and third.

West Laurens out-hit Veterans 14-6. Kyndall Foster was the only Lady Wahawk with multiple hits. She went 3-2. Skyler Welford (0-3) and Kaylee Brown (1-1) earned the RBIs. Three pitchers took to the mound for Veterand with Jenna West getting the loss. She gave up nine hits, six runs, struck out four and walked two.

Veterans is now 3-1 while West Laurens improved to 4-1.
