Mount de Sales beat Perry Thursday.
Turns out the Lady Panthers were – are – in good company. In fact, the Lady Cavaliers have now beaten Perry twice (2-0 back on Aug. 21), Northside twice (2-0 back on Aug. 16 and 21) and Warner Robins (2-0 back on Aug. 16).
Only Veterans has been immune, beat Mount De Sale 2-0 back on Aug. 14. That, according to MaxPreps, is actually its only loss stacked against 10 wins. (The two will meet again in September.)
As far as Thursday, the Lady Cavaliers won this match 3-0. They took the first 25-13, second 25-14 and third 25-19.
Perry fell to 3-5 as a result.
“We get better and better when we play a tough team like Mount de Sales,” said Stewart. “Of course we always find where we need the most work and we continue to adjust.
“These girls are aggressive and they continue to fight to make not only themselves better, but the whole team.”
Standouts on offense included Sophomore Rachel Dowd, Senior Leah Spears and Senior Lativa Ray. They, Coach Jamie Stewart said, were “our active leaders on offense delivering some kills on Mount de Sales. Senior Carson Hillis also had several back row attacks that gave us a side-out.”
Defensively, Senior Carson Hillis, who plays libero, helped lead with some “tough digs” from a tough right side hitter for Mount de Sales. Also strong on defense were Dowd and Spears with big blocks on the net, said Stewart.
Next week, she added, will be a big test to “see how we will line up in our region. While most will be enjoying a holiday, our girls will be working hard Monday to prepare for Tuesday evening when we begin region play.”
That will be against Upson-Lee and West Laurens, beginning at 5 p.m. at Perry.
Warner Robins 2, Northside 0
Their “flow” back.
That’s how Warner Robins Head Coach Cassie Bennett described the team’s play at home against Northside Thursday. True enough, the Demonettes won 2-0. They beat the Lady Eagles 25-20 to start and then finished them off with a 25-14 win.
Leaders on the night included Natalee Nino, who had five aces. Hannah Luke had four. Luke and Anna Slaughter each both had five kills, while Luke joined with Jessica Henry to lead in digs. Each had seven. Hayley Shepherd also had one block.
Warner Robins improved to 6-7 with the win.
