Jenna West helps lead Veterans past Tift County; Demonettes fall

Jenna West worked seven innings of two-hit ball to help lead Veterans to a 7-1 win over Tift County Monday at home.

The final score might have made it not look like it, but the Lady Warhawks (3-2) needed every ounce of her performance. At least in the early innings, as Veterans was held off the scoreboard until the fourth.

The Lady Blue Devils (2-8) on the other hand scored theirs in the third. The Lady Warhawks’ offense got rolling on Trinity Thiel’s double – she was 1-2 with a walk – to start their fourth. Catherine Hickey (1-3) singled her home and Emily Myers (1-2) did likewise for Hickey with a triple. Jaiah Gainous (0-2) walked. Nicole Chavous replaced her as a pinch runner. Myers scored on Chloe Barnes’ groundout – she was 1-3. Chavous came in on Hailey Evans’ sacrifice fly – she was 0-2. All totaled, four came in.

Veterans added two more in the fifth and one in the sixth while putting together 10 hits in all.

Elsewhere, Howard scored early. Howard scored late to upend Warner Robins 11-2 at home. The Lady Huskies pushed one across in the first. That was fine, seeing as the Demonettes also scored one. The second, however, was not kind. The visitor pushed five across. Warner Robins cut it to 6-2 with a run in the bottom of the third, but that’s as close as it could come. Howard padded its lead with three in the fifth and two in the sixth.

The Demonettes were close in hits, only edged out 11-7. Taylor Corley had one – in three plate appearances. It was a homerun.

Kayla Dozier also went 2-2 and Zaida Carson 0-3 but with an RBI.
