Demons off to quick start in win over Tift County

Warner Robins Head Coach Mike Chastain said going into the Demons’ game against Tift County that they had their “work cut out for us. Their front on defense is as good as we want to go against.”

That being the case, Warner Robins proved to be plenty up to the task as the Demons beat the Blue Devils 40-29.

Warner Robins jumped out to a 14-0 lead to start. Its first score came via Dylan Fromm’s one-yard run to cap a drive. Trey Franklin intercepted a Tift County pass on its next possession and ran it back 45 yards for a score. The Blue Devils got a field goal following but Devin Brown scored from 22 yards out to finish off a drive and make it 20-3 – the point after missed.

That’s where it stood after one.

Tift County cut it to 20-10 following and had a chance to do more damage after intercepting a Fromm pass. But as giveaways/takeaways go, it was taking the worst of the lot. It lost two balls to fumbles and two to interceptions and in fact gave it back to Warner Robins via the latter.

That gave way to a Cary Payne field goal and a Demons lead of 23-10. Tift answered that with a field goal to make it 23-13, then cut it to 23-20 following.

Warner Robins made it a two-score game again right after that when Fromm found Jalen Addie on a seven-yard pass.

Tift County threw one of those aforementioned interceptions following, but the Demons were unable to capitalize as their field goal attempt missed.

Fromm was picked again on Warner Robins’ first possession of the third. The Blue Devils were unable to capitalize, however, and in fact punted their first three possessions in the third. They were able to add a safety in there, however, to cut it to 30-22.

Warner Robins answered that with a 55-yard pass from Fromm to James Smith and later added a field goal to cap off their scoring. The Blue Devils also added a score but couldn’t close the gap any further.
