Perry beats Pike County; falls to FPD

“High expectations.”

That’s Perry Head Coach Terri Hunt’s outlook on the Lady Panthers’ new season after, she said, only losing one season to graduation and following a Sweet 16 appearance. “We have seven seniors this year, most of which have been playing varsity since they were sophomores.”

Tuesday at First Presbyterian Day, the girls were forced to settle for a split. They beat Pike county 2-0, but fell to the host Lady Vikings by the same margin.

“FPD was a tough way to open our season,” she said, the girls falling 25-17 and 25-19. “But was a great measuring stick for us. We had too many blocking and service errors.

“Some of those things are expected early in the season. We can fix that.”

Tay Riddley, Leah Spears and Rachel Dowd each had four kills to lead the squad against FPD. Spears, Davina Brown and Dowd also each had two blocks.

Perry beat Pike County 25-23, 25-11.

Dowd had four kills and Spears three in that match. Spears also had four aces.
