Upson-Lee offense roars to life – sprints past Perry

Perry and Upson saved their fireworks for the second half.

The Knights had the home-field advantage, so apparently they were able to buy locally and get them cheaper. At any rate, they came away with the 38-21 win.

By the end of two quarters, they had the only score – a 17-yard run by Damon Thomas.

They added a fieldgoal to that with about three minutes into the third, and then it was the Panthers’ turn.

They scored on a 57-yard pass from Jay Watkins to Davion Ross. That cut it to 10-7. Watkins found Malik Mullins a short time later on a 13-yard touchdown pass, and with the point after gave Perry its first lead, 14-10.

The Panthers were unable to handle a punt after that, which resulted in another Upson-Lee score to make it 17-14.

Watkins found Ross again following on a 77-yard strike. That made it 21-17, Perry, but it also lit a fuse underneath the Knights.

They scored three times following to put the game well out of reach. Cameron Traylor got the first of those on a nine-yard run. Following that, he found Richardson for a 66-yard pass and then Trailer for one of 71 yards.

It was Upson-Lee’s first Region 2-AAAA win. It is now 1-1, 4-3 overall. Perry on the other hand is still search for its first division win. It fell to 0-2, 4-4.
