Sometimes it’s whatever it takes to win.
Sometimes it’s whatever it takes to score.

And not always in that order, as it appeared the first priority for Houston County Friday night in Freedom Field against Coffee, was to erase the memory of a 34-0 shutout by Lee County two weeks ago (a bye week last weekend).
That appeared to be on the minds of the Bears as they went for it on fourth down “twice” during their opening possession. The first time they made it – a fourth-and-one. The second time, a fourth-and-17, they didn’t.
Subsequently, they turned it over on downs. Coffee went on to score its first touchdown – a two-yard run by Jameon Gaskin – and went on to win 35-0.
That first score capped a 10-play drive. Jose Rodriguez made it 7-0.
Houston County punted following and that set up the Trojans’ second score. It came via a 41-yard run by Antonio Dawson with about 11 seconds left in the first. The point after was blocked.
Both punted a pair of times before Gaskin broke free again. This time it was for 42 yards and the score. Rodiriguez made the point after to put it at 20-0.

After the Bears had given it back, Coffee scored again with about 36 seconds to go in the half. This one was on a 41-yard run by Antonio Dawson. The PAT made it 7-0, which is where it stood at the half.
The Trojans punted to start the third, but Houston County turned it over on an interception. That led to a 20-yard pass from quarterback Wade Sumner to Milton Jackson for the score. That also finished off a six-play drive that went 63 yards. Coffee went for the two-point conversion and made it via a run by Sumner.
That also helped usher in the fourth quarter, which was played with a running clock.
The game was the first for Coffee in 1-AAAAAA. It also improved to 4-6 overall, whereas the Bears fell to 0-2, 2-6.
