Perry offense too much for Dougherty

Blink and you missed them.

That is, Perry’s four quick touchdowns and with Tyler Knowles’s points after quickly turned into a 28-0 lead over host Dougherty in the two teams’ matchup Friday in Albany.

The Panthers went on to win 49-8.

Tyrell Owens and Jay Watkins each accounted for two of those first four scores.

The Trojans did answer at that point. They put together an 80-yard drive that consisted of nothing but runs – a change in strategy at that point. That is minus a screen pass that got them into the endzone. They quickly went for two and made it.

An interception gave the host a chance to do more damage, but Perry’s defense held. Not only that, but the special teams blocked the attempted punt.

That set up a short field and Watkins’s third touchdown. A short punt gave the Panthers a short field again following. That set up Owens’ third touchdown and made it 42-8, which is where it was at the half.

A running clock and Jermaine Lee’s 20-yard interception return for a score accounted for the rest.

Perry improved to 4-1 – surpassing last year’s three wins – in the process, while Dougherty fell to 1-5.
