Chance’s walk-off HR lifts Perry over W. Laurens

Annie Chance’s two-run walk-off homerun in the seventh inning lifted Perry to a 5-3 over West Laurens Thursday at home.

Her centerfield shot also came with two outs and with Ty Odom, who had singled, on second – a base she stole.

The Lady Panthers started the game with two runs in the second. Those came via a leadoff triple by Odom (2-4 with two runs scored) and a sacrifice fly by Chance (1-3) that got her home. Lauren Heath (2-3) then followed that up with a homerun to left.

The Lady Raiders – both teams finishing with 10 hits – tied in the second with four singles – a pair of flyouts sandwiched among them.

Perry went back out front with a run in the bottom of the inning. L.T. Reynolds (1-3) started the inning with a single. Caley Benitez came in to run for her and moved to second on Courtney Thompson’s sacrifice bunt. She then scored on Olivia Hardy’s double to left.

West Laurens tied it with a run in the top of the fourth and that’s the way it stayed until Chance stepped up to the plate.

Ashley Gidney worked a complete game for the win. She gave up the hits and runs while walking three.

The win was also huge in the fact it was the first for the Lady Raiders in Region 2-AAAA. They are now 6-1 (15-2 overall), as is Spalding. Mary Persons is 5-3 while Perry improved to 4-4 (9-10).
