*******RELIVE THE WARHAWKS WIN BY GOING TO THE HOUSTON HEALTHCARE REPLAYS TAB*******
When Veterans stopped the run, it stopped Worth County.
To elaborate in the Warhawks’ 27-14 win: The Rams started the game running … and running … and running.

In fact, they didn’t attempt – and complete – their first pass until their 14th play. The reason? Possibly – probably – because it was working! They took the ball to start the game on their own 41. Five runs – plus 20 yards in penalties in their favor – helped them pick up a trio of first downs and get the ball to Veterans’ 12. A fumble negated that drive, but they were back at it again on their next.
That is, after the Warhawks had put a score on the board, it should be noted. They got the kick on the 15. It took five plays to get into the endzone. The biggest was the 73-yard pass completion for a touchdown from quarterback Leyton Pinckney to Jeremy Horton. The point after was blocked making it 6-0.
Now back to Worth County. It began its second possession on its own 30. It went through eight more running plays – then came the aforementioned pass – and then two more runs to get into the endzone. Quarterback Ke’marcus Smith finished the drive off from the 1. The point after was good making it 7-6, Rams, with just inside three minutes left in the quarter.
That was to do it for the visitor’s running game. And that was to do it for the visitor.
Veterans forced them to punt on a three-and-out – all run attempts – on their next possession.
The Warhawks then put together a six-play, 69-yard drive that ended with Jacob Pierce taking it in from the 2. The two-point conversion failed.
The Rams turned it over on downs on their next possession. Veterans took over on the 35, ran nine plays and scored again. Cordelle Clark finished it off from the 7. James Tinney’s point after made it 18-7.
Worth County went three-and-out again following. The Warhawks took the punt on the 29, picked up a trey of first downs, but stalled. That gave way to Tinney’s 30-yard fieldgoal to make it 21-7. That came as time ran out.
The Rams managed to keep it close thanks to a couple of muffed punts – back-to-back even. Justin
Stevens’ interception negated one, but the second was recovered on the Warhawks’ 11 and was run in on the next play.
Not to worry as Horton – the player who mishandled them – made it up on Veterans’ next possession. After a Worth County punt – the game just moving into the fourth quarter – he took the handoff on the second play from scrimmage and ran it 65 yards for the touchdown. Tinney’s PAT made it the final score.
Veterans improved to 2-1 with the win, while Worth County dropped to 0-3.
