Jadin Daniels’ 35-yard pass to Daniel Neal appeared to provide just what Northside needed. A lead. Not only a lead, but what looked to be a rally come to fruition – one that started with it trailing 21-10 – not to mention momentum.
All that vanished, however, when Jones County answered back and then went on to win 35-27.
Northside began the game by punting. The Greyhounds began it by scoring. The Eagles did try to respond following, but Cory Munson’s 48-yard field goal attempt was no good.
Both punted following that before Jones County – the game having moved into the second quarter – scored again. The first one was an eight-yard pass from Hunter Costlow. The second was a 66-yard pass from Costlow – this one to Jontavis Robertson. Evan West’s points after made it 14-0.
Munson connected on a 32-yard field goal following to make it 14-3. That’s where it stood at the half.
Tubby McCall’s “pick six” and the PAT made it 14-10. Costlow and Robertson connected on an 85-yard touchdown pass to make it the aforementioned 21-10.
Daniels’ 40-yard touchdown pass to Keuntae Stewart cut it to 21-17 and his aforementioned TD to Neal made it 24-21 – the aforementioned lead.
Northside forced Jones County to punt following that, but a fumble gave it to them on the 2. Costlow again found Robertson – from the 5. The PAT made it 28-24, Westside. That also brought the third to a close.
Both took turns punting. The Eagles also lost another fumble but Costlow was picked by Kentrez Anthony.
Finally, with just over a minute left to play Gregory Cole III scored on a two-yard run to make it 35-24 with the point after.
Northside answered with a Munson field goal of 38 yards, but that came with just one second on the clock. It attempted an onside kick, but it failed.
The loss dropped the Eagles to 1-2 while Jones County improved to 3-0.
