Perry beats Northside; HoCo sweeps two; Vets falls to three

They didn’t past Mount de Sales but they did beat Northside.

“Mistakes. Mistakes. Mistakes,” said Perry Head Volleyball Coach Terri Hunt of the club’s 2-0 loss to the Lady Cavaliers. Mount de Sales won the first 25-12 and the second 25-13. “Too many free balls. Not enough attacks on offense,” she continued. “(We) did not close off blocks.”

Against the Lady Eagles – the matches held at their place – things were different. The Lady Panthers beat them 25-17, 25-21.

Overall, Baylee Nichols, Rachel Dowd, Tay Ridley, Chloe Marshall and Abbie Spears helped lead the girls.

Nichols had four aces and a block. Dowd and Ridley each recorded four kills and Marshall and Spears both had a pair of assists.

Elsewhere, Houston County traveled to West Laurens to take on it and Stratford. It won both “fairly easily,” said Head Coach Maria Huelsman.

Both results were the same against each 2-0, Lady Bears.

Veterans did not fare nearly as well. It traveled to Locust Grove for a quad meet and lost all three. It fell to the host 28-26, 25-19. It came up short to ELCA 2-1. The girls won the first one 25-21 but fell over the course of the next two, 25-19 and 25-12.

They then faced Whitewater and lost 25-18, 25-23.

“We struggled with serve receive all evening,” said Head Coach Marlene Rogers, “giving up consecutive points on poor passing.

“(Our) defense was slow to adjust to the different play styles by each of the teams.”

The bright spot, she added, was serving, “which remained tough and consistent through each match.”

Alasha Heard was the top leader on the night. She had 24 kills and 13 blocks. Katie Reiff was next. She had 18 kills.
