Cameron Jones allowed just one hit. Houston County put up 13.
That was the story in the Bears’ 15-0 win in four innings over Veterans Thursday at Veterans.
Houston County opened the night with a four-spot in the first. It added a pair in the third before blowing it open with nine in the fourth.
It was really the middle-to-bottom part of the order that did most of the damage. Jones in the third spot was 2-4. Jake Maddox, who pinch ran for him, scored three times as a result. R.J. Preston at cleanup was 2-3 – one of those a double – with four runs driven in and three scored.
Corbet Luna followed and was 1-2 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored. Then came Logan Morris who was perfect on the day. He was 3-3 with three runs driven in and three scored. Chandler Ring was 2-3 with a walk. He also earned an RBI and scored once. Dylan Tabor was 2-3 with an RBI and run scored and Chandler Dawson was 2-3 with a walk. He drove in three as well and scored twice.
The Warhawks’ lone hit came to Leyton Pinckney, whereas Jones struck out five and walked one.
Houston County left with a 5-1 records, while Veterans fell to 3-2.
Elsewhere, Perry also improved to 5-1 with an 8-1 win at home over Crisp County.
The Panthers scored three in the second and three in the third to go up 6-0. They then added one in the fourth and sixth, while the Cougars scored their lone run in, also in the sixth.
Perry out-hit Crisp 9-2. Two each belonged to Andrew Newhouse and Jacob Hunt. Both were 2-4, the difference being in this case that Newhouse – one of his being a double as he also drove in three runs. Hunt did score one.
Trevor Dykes (1-3 with a walk), and Jackson Nipper (1-2 with a walk) each earned an RBI.
John Micah Law went the distance. He struck out 11 along the way, while only walking one.
