Harris County sends Warhawks to sixth-straight loss

It was a contest between two teams desperate for their first win in Region 1-AAAAA – both needing a victory to have even the faintest hope of a playoff berth. Veterans came into it 0-2. Harris County was 0-1. The Warhawks, at 2-6, were also trying to snap a five-game losing streak while the Tigers, coming in at 3-4, had lost the previous week.

In the end, it was Harris County dominating to the tune of 35-7. There was some doubt as to the outcome after one. The host only led 8-0 at that point. That came on an eight-play drive that went 65 yards. Ak Wortham finished it off from the 2, and of course the two-point conversion was good.

Most of the Tigers’ damage came in the second. They put 20 on the board during that span.

It started with a second eight-play drive, this one going 80 yards. It was again capped off by Wortham, this time from the 1. The point after was no good.

Cal’von Harris’s 60-yard punt return for a score coupled with the extra point made it 21-0. An interception following helped set up another score. It began on Veterans’ 28 and was finished off by Davion Mahone’s 13-yard pass to Reese Moore. The point after made it 28-0, which is where it stood at the half.

Harris County then came out to start the third with a 10-play, 55-yard drive for its fifth score. Davis Day took it into the endzone of a five-yard pass.

The Warhawks finally put together a drive following. It went eight plays and 60 yards and was finished off by Hart Fields’s one-yard run. It came with just over six minutes left to play.
