Houston County’s girls and Veterans’ boys earned bragging rights for the county Tuesday in the 25th annual running of the cross country championships.
On the course bordering Huntington Middle School, the Lady Bears finished with 40 points. Perry was second with 43, followed by Veterans with 57 and Northside with 80. Warner Robins had individual runners, but no full squad.
MacKenzie Walls for Veterans defended her title individually. She crossed the line in 18:51.94. That was ahead of Houston County’s Ande Chalout, who finished with a time of 20:34.78.
Alyssa Mountain for Perry was third. Her time was 21:34.31. Victoria Teague and Caitlin Cherry finished fourth and fifth, respectively, for the Lady Bears. The first finished in 22:19.22, the second 22:35.15.
Penelope Jackson was Northside’s top finisher. She was sixth with a time of 22:39.59. Farinaz was first for Warner Robins. She was 24th with a time of 28:25.34.
For the boys, the Warhawks finished with 20 points. Warner Robins was second with 82, followed by Houston County with 84, Perry with 86 and Northside with 92.
Tim Feezor for the Bears was first with a time of 17:27.91. Six Warhawks followed.
From second to seventh, they were: Griffin Hodges (17:35.25), Rio Espinoza (17:44.47), Daniel Shepard (17:46.78), Abram Spradling (17:51.03), Brandon Webb (17:51.97) and Andrew Bos (17:56.78).
Joseph Everette for the Eagles was next. He crossed in 18:03.84.
Two more Veterans runners placed next – Grant Morgan (18:05.78) and Trent Jackson (18:29.78) – before the Demons’ first runner crossed. That was Will Nash, who finished in 18:32.28.
Also, Perry’s girls and boys won at the middle school level.
