“Too many blocking, service and communication errors.”
That was Perry Head Coach Terri Hunt’s assessment of the team’s 3-0 loss to Houston County Thursday in Perry. The Lady Bears won the first 25-16, second 25-11 and third 25-21. Hunt also offered the fact the Lady Panthers committed 11 service errors and seven blocking errors as evidence of the aforementioned.
“It’s very difficult to win against good teams with mistakes,” Hunt said. “We had a difficult time handling their serves.
HoCo has a very athletic, well-rounded team.”
On a positive note, she added, “We were able to regroup in game three and play them tough.
“Having tough matches early in the season will help us down the road.”
Said Head Coach Maria Huelsman of her squad: “The team played with a lot of energy and confidence. It was a great environment to play in.”
Kennedi Moore and Maira Marsh led the team with kills. Moore had nine and Marsh seven. Izzy Luggi had three, Aubree Jones and Marlena Nelson two each. Nelson also had three blocks, Moore and Marsh one each.
Luiggi also had 12 assists, whereas Marsh had seven. Jaden Nelson had nine digs. Moore also led in aces. She had six. Nikola Klapyk had five, Luiggi four. Jaden Nelson and Shay Williams each had three.
Elsewhere, Veterans won two and lost won in Columbus. The Lady Warhawks fell to the host 2-0, 25-11 and 25-12, but beat Harris County 2-0 and Lee County 2-1. It beat the first 25-18, 25-23 and the second 25-22, fell 25-12, then won 25-19.
“We really had a rough start against Columbus,” Head Coach Marlene Rogers said. “ They served tough and would could not get a pass that would set up our offense. It was a very frustrating match.
“The team regrouped and played well against Lee and Harris County. Alasha Heard, as the team captain, produced outstanding offense and Katie Reiff played consistent, contributing on the offensive and defensive sides.”
Heard led in kills with 27. Meri Buchanan had 11. Abby Cross pulled in 11 digs and Katie Reid seven.
Savannah Hodge and Cross had three aces each, while Staci Jones had two blocks and Sydney Hudson 21 assists.
