The scariest thing for Davion Ross? If you said football, try again. It was “riding a very high roller coaster,” he said. Still, he added he’s glad he did it because, “I had to get over my fears.”

Which is something opponents facing the Perry High School student-athlete on the football field are still trying to come to grips with. If you don’t believe it, just ask Harris County and Veterans. The special teams junior had two long runs for touchdowns against the first to spark the Panthers to a win and then a week later blocked a punt attempt and returned it for 34 yards for a score to become the catalyst for another. That, by the way, he remembers as one of his “favorite” games.
As such, Ross has been named the Academy Sports+Outdoors Athlete of the Week (football – week five).
Ross is the son of Sharika Postell. He has played varsity football for three years and also run varsity track those three.
Not afraid, but what does make him “nervous”, he said, is when the game first starts. “But at the same time,” he said. “I’m hyped up. I stop being nervous after the first play.”
Football is not only his passion – competing as a Panther, training by himself on “footwork” drills and/or jogging around the neighborhood – it’s his favorite hobby. That is, it’s something he likes to do with his friends as recreation, as well as playing video games.

His stepfather, he said, likes his sport the best “because he used to play and is always talking about it (his experience and football in general).”
A fan of pizza, Ross said if he could give away $50,000, it would go to his family – “buy them things that they need,” he said.
As far as roller coasters go, he may find himself in that situation again before long. After all, the Georgia National Fair is coming to town in October.
Regardless, 5-11, 150 pounder, is on top of the world right now. The Panthers are riding with him – helping him get there just as much as him helping them – and there are no plans on coming down anytime soon.
