The late innings proved to be somewhat significant in local softball action held Thursday.
For Perry that meant scoring four runs in the seventh to get past Upson-Lee 6-3. For Houston County it was scoring a single run in the fourth, fifth and sixth to sneak past Jones County 3-2, and for Veterans it meant seeing Harris County push eight across in the fifth en route to a 13-6 win over the Lady Warhawks.

It was non-applicable for Warner Robins, as Bainbridge scored one in the first, four in the second and three in the third to beat the Demonettes 10-2 in five innings. Warner Robins only manage two hits – one by Taylor Corley and one by Jordan Thomas. The Lady Bearcats in turn had 12 while roughing up Acasha Dollar. With it being a Region 1-AAAAA, Warner Robins is now 1-2 in that regard, 6-10 overall, whereas Bainbridge improved to 2-3, 11-8.
As far as the Lady Panthers, Terra Odom got that aforementioned four-run seventh started with a bunt single. Annie Chance walked and L Heath doubled to bring in Odom and Chance. The Lady Trojans then committed two of their four errors allowing Emma Pruitt and Avery Williams to reach. The end result was a 5-3 lead, with Allison Peavy’s single bringing in the last of those runs – Hailey Simons, who came in as a pinch runner.
Heath finished the day 3-4 with two RBI to help lead the offense. Odom was 2-4, those two accounting for half of Perry’s hits.
Chraisma Winkler worked all seven innings for the win. She gave up six hits, walked two and struck out two.
It was also a region matchup – 2-AAAA – with the Lady Panthers improving to 3-2 (currently good enough for third), 7-8 overall. Upson-Lee fell to 0-4, 2-10.
The Lady Bears, who actually out-hit the Lady Greyhounds 11-3, got their first run – bottom of the fourth – off Bobbi Poff’s double. That – with two outs – brought in Lauren Ross who had singled.

Kenly Sullivan tied it with her sacrifice fly in the fifth. That brought home Taylor Peebles who had singled to start the inning.
Finally, Peebles’s two-out single scored Jamie Benda for the go-ahead run. Benda had singled to reach, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and reached third on a fielder’s choice.
Peebles finished 3-4 with the aforementioned RBI and run scored. She also worked all seven innings for the victory. She struck out three and didn’t walk a batter. Ross was 2-3 with a run scored and Benda 2-2 with the run scored.
Houston County improved to 9-2 with the win while Jones County now stands at 10-5.
As far as Veterans, it was out-hit 16-4. Four errors also didn’t help. Trinity Thiel made the most of her plate appearances with a 2-3 day. She also drove in one and scored twice.
The Lady Tigers remained the team to beat in 1-AAAAA, as they improved to 4-0, 9-4 overall. The Lady Warhawks fell to 1-1, 7-5.
