HoCo hosts trio; WR swept; Perry sweeps NHS

They had this: “All the teams left it all on the court at the end of the night for sure.”

That was Houston County volleyball Head Coach Maria Huelsman on a trio of teams – not counting the Lady Bears – battling it out at Houston County Tuesday. (This after hosting a bunch Saturday in their play date.)

The teams were Northside-Columbus, Harris County and Veterans.

The Lady Bears lost to the first two in “heartbreakers”, Huelsman said, but “soundly defeated” Veterans – improving to 15-8 in the process. (The Lady Warhawks also lost to Harris County, but their results against Northside-Columbus were unknown.)

“All my kids are performing well and are getting better every day,” Huelsman said – her squad now 4-6 overall. “I changed up my offense, going to a 6-2 instead of a 5-1, which has been a great game changer for us.”

Elsewhere, Warner Robins traveled to Columbus where it fell to both it and Whitewater.

It fell to Columbus 25-10, 25-12 and was edged out by Whitewater in the first match 26-24, but then fell hard in the second, 25-12.

It was not all negative, said Head Coach Cassie Bennett. In fact the opposite.

“I think it may end up being a good thing,” she said. “While the losses sting, I think they taught us some things. Our strengths and weaknesses were definitely defined last night and now we know exactly what we need to work on to be a better all around team.”

Parker Hogan had five aces and a kill against Whitewater to help lead the squad. Hanna Luke also had four aces against Whitewater and one against Columbus.

Anna Slaughter had four kills and two blocks against Whitewater and three kills against Columbus. Kayla Luke had four kills against Whitewater and one against Columbus.

Perry was closer to home – Northside in fact – where it took three in a best-of-five from the Lady Eagles.

The Lady Panthers won 25-12, 25-17 and 25-13. Hannah Hunt and Leah Spears each had two aces to help lead the squad.

Also, Davina Brown had six kills and Leah Spears had five – there were 18 total.
