WR sweeps Statesboro, West Laurens; Perry falls

“The girls are playing really well together. They are excited and ready to win.”

So said Warner Robins volleyball Head Coach Cassie Bennett. Proof comes by way of the fact the girls are 3-0 in matches to date.

The latest came Thursday at Statesboro. The Demonettes beat it 2-0, 25-19 and 25-18 and then swept West Laurens 2-0, 25-13, 25-10.

Said Bennett of just two standouts: “Hannah Luke was back at it on defense. Anna Slaughter was completely focused every time she went back to serve and got us some crucial, game changing points.

“I have no complaints about how the girls played.”

Luke had two blocks and a dig in the second game against Statesboro. She had a block in the first game against West Laurens and two more in Game 1. Slaughter had three blocks and a dig in Game 1 versus Statesboro, three blocks and four digs in Game 2.

Also, Kayla Moore had six digs against the host Lady Blue Devils and three against the Lady Raiders. Parker Hogan had a dig and a block against Statesboro and seven blocks and two digs against West Laurens.

Elsewhere, Perry traveled to First Presbyterian Day where it fell 2-1 both against the host as well as against another traveler, Eagles Landing Christian Academy. The Lady Panthers lost the first game against ELCA 25-15. They won the second 25-23 but fell 25-18 in the third. The won the first one against the Lady Vikings 25-16 but fell in the second, 25-21, and third, 25-18.

“Inconsistency in play gets us,” said Head Coach Terri Hunt. “Hopefully, good competition early will fix that.”

Hannah Hunt helped lead the squad. She had three aces on eight servers. Also, Chloe Marshall and Leah Spears each had four kills.
